Special Guest! Blujazz recording artist Paul Kogut has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe and Japan. Drawn to the music of the Grateful Dead, he began playing guitar in the mid-1970s, and their spirit of adventure remains a continuing inspiration. Read more about Paul Kogut

Henry Simon plays his white 25 year old Fender Stratocaster with the kind of confidence you rarely see in an 18 year old guitarist. He began performing with Little Sparrow two years ago, and his warm soulful tones and super enjoyable guitar solos bring an unmistakable spark to the band.

Jeff Anderson is a seasoned bass player who has toured the world with performers like Ben E King and Esther Philips. He plays jazz, blues, R&B and rock, and has worked on multiple Lp’s and recording projects over his 40 year career.

Carol Smith is a painter turned musician who together with her husband Aldo Troiani started the band Little Sparrow. Over the years they have worked with countless local and regional musicians, continually expanding and experimenting with their sound.

The current foursome is part jam band, part folk rockers, with dazzling three part harmonies and plenty of guitar solos. Their musical influences are solidly sixties and seventies, with lots of Jerry Garcia, Neil Young, classic rock, folk, reggae and R&B.

Paul Kolgut

Blujazz recording artist Paul Kogut has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe and Japan. Drawn to the music of the Grateful Dead, he began playing guitar in the mid-1970s, and their spirit of adventure remains a continuing inspiration.

Paul Kogut - For the past 25 years Paul has steadily built an international reputation as a jazz guitarist and composer. His latest CD, “Turn of Phrase,” features the legendary rhythm section of George Mraz and Lewis Nash. Its release on the Chicago-based Blujazz label was met with heavy airplay and critical acclaim, with Grammy-winning journalist Neil Tesser saying, “Here’s the main thing to know: you won’t hear a better guitar-trio album this year.”

In 2015, Paul’s music was featured at the Jazz and Colors Fare Thee Well Celebration, at Chicago’s Field Museum. He holds a Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music and has served on the jazz faculty of Hamilton College and as teaching artist at UWM Peck School of the Arts.

And speaking of Paul, John Abercrombie says, “His musical approach to guitar playing and his compositional skills are first rate.” Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers calls Paul “a great guitar player.” James Keepnews describes his debut Blujazz release, “Know It? I Wrote It!” as “a memorable first date, one that will appeal to the taciturn jazzbo and the festival twirler alike.” To listen visit http://www.paulkogut.com or http://www.youtube.com/paulkogutmusic.
